Here are some thoughts from those already working for us:

Brianna Burns - Area Manager, Humes Tamworth NSW

Brianna is currently seconded as the Area Manager for Humes in Tamworth, stepping into the role during Clare Taylor's maternity leave in the first half of 2024. This opportunity has not only allowed her to gain a firsthand experience of the Country Music Festival but also developed her career as a business unit manager. During this period, Brianna has had the chance to enhance her skills in sales and customer engagement, broadening her expertise in the multifaceted aspects of the role.

Brianna's professional journey began in administrative and reception roles in Adelaide with Humes. She initially managed quality documentation and later transitioned into the position of Quality Officer. Demonstrating her versatility, she then assumed the role of Production Manager at the Pooraka plant, efficiently overseeing the demanding production line operations across multiple shifts. This progression underscores Brianna's valuable experience and adaptability, positioning her as a capable and accomplished leader within the organisation.

Chris Hamilton - Area Manager, North NSW Aggregates

I joined Holcim Australia under the Rinker Graduate Program in July 2006 based in Wodonga, Victoria.

I was supported from day one and had key mentors guiding my business exposure and developing my skills in aggregates operations, ready-mixed concrete and laboratory work.

I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunities to travel and take on several roles within Holcim Australia in the past 11 years, as well as Holcim supporting my growth and development. These roles include: Process Improvement Engineer Northeast VIC and South Australia, Montacute Quarry Manager in Adelaide, Operations Improvement Manager with our Aggregates National Operations team based in Sydney, Operations Support Manager for Lynwood and my current role in Northern NSW as the Area Manager for Aggregates.

It is reassuring to me that no matter what role I have held within Holcim, I have found every site and region to have a common positive attitude, a support network and a willingness to succeed.

I feel very fortunate to have established many friendships within Holcim. The level of inclusiveness and sharing of knowledge across teams and management is what makes the “Holcim Family”.

David Ramage - Pit Manager, Oaklands Junction VIC

Portrait of David Ramage

My history with Holcim began in 1990 when I was employed with the original company, Holderbank, who at the time traded under the name of Excel Quarries. After leaving in 2000 to explore other roles in the industry, I returned to Holcim in 2009.

My role as Pit Manager for Oaklands Junction Quarry is busy and diverse. Each day I ensure safety is top priority while coordinating the functions and production tasks to achieve our goals and meet the demand of the current Melbourne market. From completing pre-start meetings and shot firing, to load and haul management, each day can differ completely from the next.

A unique feature of working for Holcim is its encouragement for its employees to extend themselves by exploring new skills and experiencing different areas. Over the years, I have undertaken a range of roles, guided by wonderful mentors in Holcim, and the company has supported me each step of the way. For me, that’s a sign of faith and genuine care for the career development pathway of its employees.

Kylie Robertson - Relief Weighbridge Operator, Sunrock Quarry QLD

My career with Holcim began in 2014, joining the company as a water cart operator. It was a fantastic role that I loved, however when an opportunity arose to learn about weighbridge operation, I jumped at it.

I was provided with incredible support, guidance and training throughout, and despite being out of my comfort zone, loved the experience so much that I accepted a role as Relief Weighbridge Operator when it became available.

In my role, I am responsible for transporting quarry rock to the site’s primary crusher, operating the water cart to reduce dust, and weighing the road trucks.

Working for Holcim has provided me with both opportunity and challenge that I’ve always sought in the industry. At Sunrock I feel I’m connected to a great team that is achieving great things every day. It’s incredibly satisfying and makes me feel proud to be where I am and doing what I love.

Matt Dodd - Quarry Manager, Pakenham VIC

My journey began with Holcim in 2006, joining the company as a graduate with the Melbourne Aggregates team.

The graduate experience set me in good stead for my future - it was as diverse as it was exciting. I spent time working with the Oaklands quarry team on drill, blast crushing, screening and operating mobile equipment, as well as assisting Melbourne metro sites with achieving their key performance indicators and capital projects.

My current role as Pakenham Quarry Manager allows me the opportunity and responsibility to run a business within a business. Everyday I get to work with a variety of great people and together we support each other to drive improvement and achieve our business goals.

Michelle Williams - Production Manager, Beenleigh Quarry QLD

Michelle is the Production Manager at Beenleigh Quarry, located between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. After starting her working life across a variety of roles in horticulture, Michelle decided to pursue a degree in Environmental Science in her late 20s. Opting for distance education at Southern Cross University, she successfully balanced full-time work, incorporating on-site training blocks each term.

With her degree completed, Michelle joined the Holcim Graduate Recruitment program and had the opportunity to experience an array of roles across the business. Recognising her passion for the aggregates business, she progressed through positions including Environmental Supervisor and Pit Manager, before  her current role as Production Manager.

Rebecca Reeves - General Manager, WA & NT Concrete
Image
Portrait of Rebecca Reeves

I started with Holcim in Australia as Cell Manager for Northern NSW in February 2016. Prior to this role I was working with Lafarge in Canada since 2004.

My journey through the company has involved both corporate and operational roles, ranging from Team Leader for a North American IT project through to General Manager for a small independent concrete plant. When the Lafarge Holcim merger happened, I took the opportunity to relocate back to Australia where I was eventually appointed into my current role as General Manager for WA Concrete.

My role involves ensuring that we have safe, supportive and sustainable operations for the organisation across each of the cells that make up the region. I spend a large portion of my time in three key areas - safety, commercial performance, and our people; where they are on their career journey and how can we support their next step.

For me, it has, and always will be, about the people. I’m inspired everyday to come to work and see the drive, dedication, commitment and passion of those who I work with and those who work for the business.

Staying open to the notion of mobility has allowed my family and I to explore all manner of opportunity and we have been fortunate to return to our home state with an industry and Group that I am proud to be a part of.

Thalita is the Sales Account Manager – Mid-North Coast, based in Coffs Harbour for Holcim Australia’s Aggregates business. She grew up in São Paulo, Brazil, and kick-started her career as a key account manager in the logistics industry, gaining a wide range of experience in transport, distribution, and customer engagement. Additionally, she studied communications and advertising at university.

To propel her career to the next level, she decided to travel to Australia for a six-month intensive English language course based in Sydney. Career opportunities then followed in the Harbour City, and after five years, Thalita moved north to Coffs Harbour – where her career continues to flourish.
