Roadbase Materials
Roadbase materials are an integral part of the construction of road projects including, major infrastructure, road duplications, residential sub-divisions, commercial developments and local councils/shires.
Application
The construction process of a road or flexible pavement requires typically three layers of quarrying products:
Capping layer
This layer is the first layer to be placed directly over the subgrade (the natural ground). Its primary purpose is to provide a stable platform for the upper layers and protect the subgrade from deformation during construction.
Sub base layer
Placed between the capping layer and the top layer, this structural tier acts as the main load-spreading element. It distributes the weight of a vehicle across a wider area to prevent the road from sinking, while also providing a vital draining path to keep water away from the lower foundation.
Top Layer
This is the highest unbound layer, sitting directly beneath the asphalt or concrete surfacing. Its purpose is to provide a high-stiffness, uniform surface that resists rutting and provides the final structural strength required to support the impact of traffic loads.
These products are generally available from all of the Holcim operations throughout its 50-plus Australian quarrying locations. These operations have varying capabilities depending on the operational output, market demand and expectation. These products are linked to precise specifications at either a local, state or federal level.
Please contact your local quarrying operation for further details.
