Sands
Holcim has honed its sand production expertise over many years, offering a diverse range of products including drainage filter sand, decorative sand, road sand, concrete sand, and horse manège sand—just a sample of what’s available across our Australian operations.
Quarry Sand
Quarry sand is a precision-engineered product created by crushing hard rock into fine, granular particles. Unlike weathered sands found in nature, these grains are angular and sharp, which allows them to lock together tightly under pressure.
This mechanical interlocking provides exceptional stability and structural integrity, making it a reliable choice for projects where high density and resistance to shifting are required.
Natural Sands
Naturally occurring sands are harvested from alluvial deposits, such as riverbeds or ancient dunes, where they have been shaped by water and wind over thousands of years. This natural weathering process results in rounded, smooth grains that move easily against one another.
This "workability" is the hallmark of natural sand, allowing it to be easily spread or pumped into place. These sands are typically washed and screened to remove impurities, providing a clean, versatile material that integrates seamlessly into a wide variety of construction solutions.
Industrial Sands
Industrial sands are high-purity materials that have undergone extensive processing to ensure chemical and physical uniformity. Beyond simple construction use, these sands are valued for their extreme durability and resistance to heat and chemical breakdown. They are washed, dried, and graded to specific particle sizes to meet the rigorous demands of specialized manufacturing and filtration environments. Because of their absence of organic contaminants, they offer a level of predictability and performance that standard sands cannot match.
