Sustainability

Sustainability is rooted in the core of our strategy. At Holcim, we are accelerating the shift to circular, sustainable and energy-efficient cities. We are executing our net-zero 1.5°C-aligned targets with speed and scale to decarbonise building across its lifecycle.

Our approach to sustainability is oriented around four key pillars: climate, circularity, nature and people.

Our four sustainability pillars

We take a rigorous, science-driven approach to becoming a net-zero company. We have taken a leadership role in our industry with a clearly defined net-zero roadmap. Our 2030 and 2050 net-zero targets are validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for all scopes.

A global circular economy can enable us to fulfil people's needs while reducing the materials we extract and use – making human activity compatible with the safe limits of the planet. At Holcim, our strategy is to  drive circular construction at scale across all key metropolitan areas and shift to a reduce-regenerate-recycle circular economy.

Nature absorbs half of the world’s carbon emissions and is the foundation of our economies and lives. Our Nature Strategy focuses on restoring and preserving biodiversity and freshwater, as well as bringing nature into cities.

We are committed to upholding human rights, health and safety, and empowering people, communities and all partners in our supply chain. Our people worldwide are driven to reach their full potential and make a positive difference.

Our approach to sustainability

As a business leader, we prioritise transparency in our sustainability reporting, policies and directives. We are one of the 17 corporate members of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and have been a supporter of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) since 2017.

We place health, safety and the environment top of mind across our operations as we aim for a zero-harm business. Strict HSE policies guide our decision-making to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our employees, their families, and all our suppliers and stakeholders.

Our latest Climate Report shares our progress in 2023 on our net-zero journey, including our 2030 targets aligned with the 1.5°C framework and validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.
