What are the Holcim Foundation Awards?

Created by Holcim in 2003, the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction is one of the first organisations to define and promote the key principles of sustainability for the built environment. Today, the independent nonprofit organisation based in Switzerland is more committed than ever to ensuring that leading-edge thinking and best practice solutions are placed in the hands of everyone. Words with Winners

A Glimpse into Groundbreaking Projects

As part of its ongoing mission to inspire change in sustainable design, the Holcim Foundation has released a series of short films entitled "Words with Winners". These films feature interviews with past Award winners, showcasing their visionary projects and revealing the creative processes behind their groundbreaking work.

Among the standout projects featured is the BRAC University Campus in Dhaka, Bangladesh, designed by WOHA. This project exemplifies “breathing architecture,” creating healthier environments for the 20,000 students who call it home. Another highlight is the UCLA Margo Leavin Graduate Art Studios in Los Angeles, designed by Johnston Marklee using adaptive reuse to extend the lifespan of an existing structure while integrating innovative new elements. The Cathédrale des Sports in France, by NP2F Architects, shows how minimal materials can be used creatively to design multifunctional spaces that integrate harmoniously with their neighbourhoods.

These projects are just a glimpse into the power of architecture and design to address global challenges.
