Building Futures:
Holcim Australia renews Commitment to Habitat for Humanity for 2024-2025
We are thrilled to announce that Holcim Australia has committed to a second year of sponsorship with the Australian arm of the global not-for-profit organisation, Habitat for Humanity.
Holcim Australia’s 2024-2025 sponsorship is two-pronged:
- Products and Materials: Supplying essential construction materials for social enterprise solutions benefiting vulnerable groups.
- Financial Support: Funding initiatives including the Habitat Women program, a social enterprise that provides building maintenance services while creating quality employment opportunities for disadvantaged women entering the construction and maintenance sectors.
The Habitat Women program aims to build strength, stability, and self-reliance for women facing employment barriers in the construction and maintenance sectors. It consists of two main components: a training program that equips candidates with basic skills to start their careers, and a social enterprise (SE) that employs graduates of the program. Habitat Women partners with employment support services, construction companies, and Registered Training Organisations to provide comprehensive training and seamless employment pathways for female job seekers.
Partnering with Habitat for Humanity has been an incredibly rewarding experience for Holcim. It has allowed us to give back to those most vulnerable in the communities in which we live and work. The mission of Habitat Women aligns with our commitment of Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace. Creating pathways for women to enter the construction sector, helping them build rewarding careers, and fostering a more diverse industry is a win-win for all of us.
Holcim Australia’s renewed sponsorship follows a successful 12 months, during which we have made significant contributions, donating products and materials for the construction of housing for disadvantaged communities or similar. Our employee volunteers in NSW, QLD, VIC, and SA have also helped build or refurbish crisis accommodation and other social and environmental projects for low-income families and vulnerable groups.
In June, a dedicated group of Queensland employees volunteered their time to refurbish crisis accommodation in Daisy Hill, Logan. Thanks to their hard work, a young family escaping a domestic violence situation was able to move in the very next day.
