Driving Sustainability Forward

Conor Duffy’s Journey at Holcim Australia

At Holcim, sustainability is at the core of our strategy as we reinvent building with solutions that are circular, resilient, low-carbon, energy-efficient and smart. Environmental management plays a critical role in achieving this vision—helping to ensure compliance, protect ecosystems, and lead industry progress toward a more sustainable future.

When Conor Duffy joined Holcim Australia as a Graduate in early 2022, he brought with him a Bachelor of Environment (Major in Biology) from Macquarie University and a passion for sustainability that aligned perfectly with our purpose.

ECOPact is a low-carbon concrete product range which can reduce the embodied carbon of buildings, infrastructure and homes by at least 30%.

“It feels amazing to contribute to solutions that change the industry. From an environmental perspective, we’re getting to integrate new systems incorporating new technologies—and collaborate with the sites to make it work,” explains Conor.

Now Environmental Coordinator for Queensland, Conor supports the implementation of environmental strategies across diverse operations. From quarry rehabilitation to regulatory compliance, his work helps ensure Holcim meets its obligations and leads the way on environmental performance.

“My role contributes to the purpose of Holcim leading the way environmentally—so being compliant with  all our conditions, approvals and licenses,” he said.

“What excites me most about the future in Holcim is developments in the environmental, sustainability and the circular economy sector. I’m proud that the company is tackling that head-on.”

Holcim Australia’s environmental team maintains tailored site management plans across operations, maintaining alignment with national regulations and best practice on dust, noise, and emissions. The company is also spearheading sustainable construction with solutions like ECOPact low-carbon concrete—which delivers 100% performance while offering at least 30% lower CO2 emissions compared to standard (CEM I) concrete, without offsets. Holcim is advancing circular construction through the use of recycled materials, including reclaimed aggregates, fly ash and slag.

Conor’s story reflects what’s possible when passion meets purpose. At Holcim, we’re proud to support people like Conor who are building progress for people and the planet—one sustainable solution at a time.
