Young leader set for global forum

1 February 2022

Twenty seven young leaders from across the Holcim Group have been selected to take part in this year’s premier global youth forum, One Young World, in Tokyo in May 2022. For the first time, Australia and New Zealand will be represented by Holcim Australia’s Liam Berneville-Claye, Marketing Manager - National Value Added Products.

The annual global forum, of which Holcim is a partner, attracts the brightest talent from every country and sector to debate and devise innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing issues. Attendees are mentored by influential business, political, and humanitarian leaders to develop their leadership skills and grow their global networks. After the forum, Holcim One Young World delegates commit to apply their inspiration and skills to drive internal transformation projects.

Liam (above), who was selected from a highly competitive group of local leaders, said he is looking forward to the opportunity to meet other like-minded young people who are passionate about creating real-world change.

“As a member of the Value Added Products team, I’m fortunate to be involved in the development of our low-carbon concrete, ECOPact, and supporting our customers to have a positive impact on decarbonisation in the construction industry. I look forward to sharing our ECOPact journey on the global stage, and returning as a One Young World Ambassador with fresh ideas that we can harness to achieve our local sustainability goals,” Liam said.

“As a collective, the young leaders of today are in charge of creating solutions to the problems of tomorrow. The ability to be able to draw inspiration and ideas from some of the smartest young minds in the world, to then inspire and implement real world change back here in Australia and New Zealand is exciting.”

Holcim’s Executive General Manager for People and Culture, Helen Jones, said the One Young World opportunity was an exciting addition to Holcim’s local career development programs.

“An advantage of working for a truly global organisation means that we are able to offer these unique development opportunities, like One Young World, to our people. Locally, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of industry leaders through a range of development pathways - and One Young World is a great addition to our offering,” Helen said.

“We are proud to have one of our brightest young stars representing Holcim Australia and New Zealand at this year’s forum. Liam is a fantastic young man, passionate about sustainability and we look forward to supporting his - and others - career development in the construction industry.”
