High workability concrete

Concrete that has high-workability is beneficial where high flow or high pumpability characteristics may be needed.

Traditionally, workability levels in concrete have been provided through increased water contents in mix designs. More recently, developments in admixture technology have allowed high workability characteristics to be obtained through the use of admixtures.

High workability concrete has applications where limited vibration is possible (particularly useful in void filling). Concrete having high workability can be achieved without significant impact on mechanical properties (eg compressive strengths and shrinkage) through appropriate mix design.
