40 Years, One Inspiring Journey: Fred Adams at Holcim

From his early days at Readymix to leading the Aggregates team in NSW, Fred’s career reflects four decades of growth, leadership, and commitment.

This week, we proudly celebrated a remarkable milestone as Fred Adams, General Manager – Aggregates NSW, marked 40 years with Holcim Australia.

Fred’s career is a story of growth, leadership, and resilience. From the early days of Readymix, through time spent in concrete and other parts of the Holcim business, and now leading our aggregates team in NSW, Fred has witnessed first-hand how the company has evolved and adapted over time.

He still remembers his first day:

Fred Adams celebrates 40 years at Holcim, and a career that reflects four decades of growth, leadership, and commitment.

“It was quite exciting coming from a small independent company and becoming part of a large entity like Readymix. The people were welcoming and made it easy to transition my team and I into the corporate world.”

Over the past four decades, Fred has taken on roles across transport, operations and account management, and general management positions, while overseeing major projects across Western Australia. Each chapter brought new challenges, opportunities, and achievements — and each one reflects a different stage in both his journey and the evolution of the business

Reflecting on how the company has changed, Fred shares:

“What’s changed is the way the business ensures accountability all the way throughout the workforce. What stays the same is the people and their commitment to achieving the best results.”

Along the way, mentors played a big role in shaping his leadership:

“Karl Watson, an experienced and highly-respected leader in the global construction materials industry for decades, had a major influence on me with the way he could encourage the best out of people. I have been so lucky to work for and alongside so many great mentors.”
