Holcim Proud to Contribute to Western Harbour Tunnel Construction
Holcim Australia is proud to be contributing to the delivery of the Western Harbour Tunnel — a major infrastructure project set to reshape Sydney’s transport network.
The 6.5km Western Harbour Tunnel will be the second road tunnel under Sydney Harbour, providing a vital link between the WestConnex Rozelle Interchange and the Warringah Freeway near North Sydney. By creating a western bypass of the Sydney CBD, the Western Harbour Tunnel will take pressure off the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Harbour Tunnel, Anzac Bridge and Western Distributor corridors to improve transport capacity in and around Sydney Harbour.
Holcim is supplying ready-mix concrete from our network of Sydney plants in Lidcombe, Alexandria and Artarmon to support the construction of the 4.8km northern section of the tunnel — a critical part of the city’s future-facing transport infrastructure.

Stage Two of the Western Harbour Tunnel Includes
- Construction of approximately 4.8 kilometres of tunnelling
- Marine works beneath Sydney Harbour
- Tunnel fit-out, including ventilation, lighting and safety systems
Around 1.5 kilometres of the harbour crossing section will be completed using tunnel boring machines, with the remaining tunnelling completed using roadheaders.
The Western Harbour Tunnel is a key part of Sydney’s integrated motorway network and a significant step in enhancing the city’s long-term liveability and economic growth.
