Driving change — Women on Wheels comes to Central West NSW
Holcim Australia’s Women on Wheels program is putting female agitator truck drivers on the road in Central West NSW, supplying into Australia’s first Renewable Energy Zone and building a more diverse future for the construction industry
Women on Wheels has been running globally since 2021, growing to more than 15 countries across five continents. Holcim Australia joined the program with a Victorian pilot in 2024, and the first NSW intake builds on that foundation.
From Victorian pilot to NSW expansion
Holcim Australia’s Women on Wheels (WoW) program has reached a significant milestone, placing three female agitator truck drivers on the road in Central West NSW and building on the momentum of the 2024 Victorian pilot.
The first NSW intake attracted more than 100 applicants, reflecting strong demand for the opportunity. A shortlist of 20 candidates progressed through a best-in-class training pathway covering heavy vehicle licensing, concrete slumping and skid-pan instruction - the skills and confidence needed to thrive in one of Australia’s most demanding industries. Three women successfully completed the program and joined Holcim’s logistics team in the region.
The three drivers are now supplying into the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ), Australia’s first official REZ and one of the most significant energy infrastructure projects in the country’s history. The zone will connect 7.7 gigawatts of wind and solar projects - enough to power more than two million homes each year. It is expected to attract up to $25 billion in private investment and support around 1,850 direct jobs during construction, with close to 1,000 ongoing roles from 2034. Our WoW drivers are part of that story, delivering the concrete that helps make it real.

More than a career change
For the participants, the experience has been as rewarding personally as it has professionally. The program has built confidence, camaraderie and a genuine sense of pride in the work and in each other.
Women on Wheels is part of Holcim’s broader commitment to building a more diverse workforce and creating meaningful pathways into the construction and resources sectors for women. The program will return later this year on the North Coast of NSW, continuing to open doors in communities across the country.
