Commercial / industrial

Holcim's commercial and industrial projects are examples of our collaborative approach. Through close consultation with our client we develop the optimum solution for the project, and dedicate the necessary resources to ensure efficient concrete supply.

Capral Aluminium

During September 2003, Watpac Australia Pty Ltd awarded Holcim a contract to supply approximately 25,000m3 of concrete for their Capral Aluminium Extrusion Facility in Bundamba, 40kms west of Brisbane. The project required large slabs on the ground it was crucial to design the slabs to minimise shrinkage and joint movements. Another important design criterion was to maximise durability and floor flatness to minimise damage by forklifts.

Queens Plaza

The $300 million Queens Plaza retail development is situated on the corner of Queen and Edward Streets in the Brisbane CBD. The 8,400m2 site is designed to house prestige tenants such as David Jones, designer boutiques, Prada and Gucci. The main design criterion was to develop a heavy duty foundation and lower levels for the Queens Plaza building. This is to allow for the future development of a 30 storey residential tower, above the car park and retail levels.

Rocks Riverside Park

The Rocks Riverside Park at Seventeen Mile Rocks is a popular Brisbane parkland with residents built on a 26-hectare site of reclaimed industrial land previously occupied by a cement plant. The park includes playground equipment, water-play features and general amenities. The site's industrial heritage has been highlighted by the use of public artworks and industrial debris such as remains of conveyor belts, crushing plant and wharf. The project was awarded the 'Best Precinct' at the 2005 Cement Concrete and Aggregate Australia (CCAA) Public Domain Awards.
