Meet Bob Beattie: Celebrating a career in concrete
In recognition of outstanding contribution to Holcim Australia and New Zealand, this year’s Annual Awards celebrated two long-serving Holcim employees with the Exco Award. In the year of his retirement, the first recipient of the award was Bob Beattie, National Concrete Improvement Manager.
When people talk about Bob Beattie, words like ‘legend’, ‘witty,’ ‘genuine’ and ‘generous’ are common descriptors. And all of them could not be truer of the man.
Bob is one of our industry’s stalwarts. He is Holcim’s go-to expert when problems need solving or improvements need to be made. Bob is well-known for giving honest feedback, calling it how he sees it, and in simple terms, getting stuff done.
We have been fortunate as a business to have Bob working with us for more than 20 years. Bob has successfully led critical areas of our business as Transport Manager for Beenleigh, Area Manager for Metro Queensland, and National Concrete Improvement Manager - he is a powerful force behind our Concrete business’ growth and success.
Throughout these years, Bob’s generosity with his time and knowledge has seen our operations and our people reach their full potential. Bob has been instrumental in building capability in Concrete, establishing the successful Area Operations Manager Programme as well as initiating our Model Plant Programme.
Bob is also a highly respected mentor to our Graduates. When a former Graduate was asked what it was like learning from Bob, he said, “He was the best mentor I had. He inspires, patiently takes the time to teach you, and I learnt a lot from just being next to him.”
This month, Bob announced that 2019 will be his retirement year. As an essential part of our Concrete business for many years, Bob, with his incredible knowledge, work ethic, generosity and candour will be greatly missed. He embodies all the characteristics we value in our business and is a worthy recipient of this year’s Exco Award.
